Dear SSCA Parents/Guardians:
As a result of the 84th
Texas Legislative Session, this
letter is required by law and
designed to inform you of the
law and district policies
regarding Compulsory Attendance.
It is important that all parents
and guardians be aware of the
consequences of unexcused
absences from school.
According to Sec. 25.095 of the
Texas Education Code, if a
student is absent from school on
ten (10) or more days or parts
of days within a six-month
period in the same school year,
the student’s parent is subject
to prosecution, and the student
is subject to referral to a
truancy court for truant
conduct.
If a student has
been absent without excuse on
three days or parts of days
within a four-week period, a
warning letter will be sent to
the parent. The parent will then
be required to attend a meeting
with the Truancy Prevention
Facilitator at the child’s
campus.
It is the
parent’s duty to monitor the
student’s school attendance and
require the student to attend
school. Please carefully review
the SSCA student handbook and
contact the
SSCA Administration
Office if you have any
questions. If you would like
more information on the law
concerning compulsory
attendance, please visit the
Parent Portal on the
SSCA website.
As you are aware, regular
school attendance is vital to
your student’s overall academic
achievement. We at SSCA are
committed to the success of all
students, and we look forward to
working with you and your child
toward this goal. |
